These Terms of Service govern your use of Appalachian Genealogy & History, including the website at appalachiangenealogy.com, the newsletter, podcast, Resource Library, Appalachian Press publications, and the Ancestor Deep Dive program. By accessing or using any part of this operation, you agree to these terms.
Appalachian Genealogy & History is an independent publication covering Appalachian history, genealogy, and culture. Content is published through a combination of the website, a Substack-hosted newsletter, a podcast distributed across multiple platforms including Spotify and YouTube, and related channels. Subscription management, payment processing, and email delivery are handled by Substack. By subscribing, you also agree to Substack's Terms of Service.
All content published here, including newsletter issues, podcast episodes, Resource Library companions, Appalachian Press titles, and Ancestor Deep Dive findings, is provided for informational and educational purposes. Genealogical and historical research is an interpretive practice. Records are incomplete, transcription errors exist in the historical archive, and conclusions drawn from available evidence may later be revised as new sources come to light.
Nothing published here constitutes a definitive or certified genealogical record. You are responsible for independently verifying any information you use in your own research. The findings, strategies, and record descriptions provided are starting points, not endpoints, and no warranty of any kind is made regarding their accuracy or fitness for any particular purpose.
The Ancestor Deep Dive program produces research summaries based on records available at the time of inquiry. Those summaries are published as newsletter posts and represent a good-faith effort with the sources at hand. Results depend entirely on what the historical record contains and are not guaranteed to be complete.
Paid subscriptions are processed through Substack. All subscription sales are final. No refunds are offered, as paid content including the Resource Library, newsletter archives, and all subscriber benefits is delivered digitally and is accessible immediately upon payment. Billing questions or disputes should be directed to Substack support, as payment processing is handled entirely on their platform.
Resource Library companions and Essential Research Series guides are included with a paid subscription and accessed through Substack. Appalachian Press titles sold through Amazon are subject to Amazon's purchase and return policies. No additional warranties are made regarding the completeness of any publication.
The Ancestor Deep Dive is a paid subscriber benefit subject to the following eligibility requirements: the ancestor submitted must have been born at least 100 years before the date of submission; requests are limited to one per subscriber per 12-month period; annual subscribers join the queue immediately upon subscribing; monthly subscribers may submit at any time, but requests are not processed until the subscription has been active for 12 consecutive months; no living individuals are covered; requests are worked in the order received; and findings are published publicly as a newsletter post. Submission of a request does not guarantee a particular outcome, timeline, or depth of findings.
All original content published under the Appalachian Genealogy & History name, including written articles, podcast episodes, research companions, and Appalachian Press publications, is owned by the publisher and protected under applicable copyright law. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or republish any content without written permission. Brief quotations with attribution for personal research or educational commentary are permitted.
